    04.02.2025 - Old Brooklyn Cheese Co. to Close on April 19

    Old Brooklyn Cheese Co. (4464 Broadview Rd., 216-860-4000), an artisanal cheese and mustard venture in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood, will close its doors on April 19. Founded in 2016 by Michael Januska, the company went on to open -- and then later close -- an east-side outpost at Van Aken District's Market Hall.

    Januska says that he's seen a dramatic decline in business over the past year or so and to continue on would be unwise.

    03.24.2024 - Cleveland councilman takes code enforcement into his own hands, sends thousands of letters to residents

    A Cleveland councilman has taken on the task of surveying every home in his ward for code violations — and sending thousands of letters to property owners to encourage repairs. Now, he’s almost done.

    Ward 13 Councilman Kris Harsh has sent 7,100 letters to property owners in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood since he took office in 2022, either thanking them for keeping their house in tip-top shape or letting them know they have minor (or sometimes major) problems to fix.

    12.13.2024 - The Witch Doctor, a Botanically Themed Bar, Set to Open This Spring in Old Brooklyn

    If all goes as planned, Matt Luebert and Charles Eby will open a new cocktail bar and lounge in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood this coming spring. Already, work has begun to convert the former Sticks & Stones Social Lounge into the Witch Doctor (3314 Broadview Rd.).

    The Foundry Concert Club has been a popular Westside concert venue (under a few different owners and by a few different names) for years and even played host to several Scene music-related events back in the day.

    Starting in February, the club will begin operating at a new location in Old Brooklyn.

The name for “A Ward Tour,” as you may have guessed if you love 1990s hip hop, is an homage to the song “Award Tour” from A Tribe Called Quest’s 1993 album “Midnight Marauders.” I’ll be watching as A Tribe Called Quest is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this Saturday.

    Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood is hosting an all-day celebration this Saturday including food, live music and more.

    The Old Brooklyn StreetFest is set for noon to 8 p.m. on October 12. Broadview Road will be closed to traffic between Spring Road and Tampa Avenue to accommodate the neighborhood block party.
