Old Brooklyn

Lead Safe Program

  • OBCDC provides Lead Safe Certification testing to help landlords obtain their Lead safe certification.

We also provide a list with other Lead Safe programs and resources provided by the City of Cleveland and other reputable organizations.

Each inspection is performed by a licensed lead clearance technician.

  • Lead exposure can cause severe health issues, including high blood pressure as well as brain, kidney and reproductive complications. Children under 6 are most at risk for health issues stemming from lead poisoning. Most adults with lead poisoning do not look or feel sick.

To prevent lead poisoning, residents must live in Lead Safe homes.

  • “Lead Safe” is a proactive approach to make sure homes do not pose a lead risk. A home is Lead Safe when lead hazards have been controlled and lead dust remains below the threshold set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This means a Lead Safe home is no longer hazardous but may still contain lead.

Lead Safe Certification

In accordance to Cleveland City Ordinance No. 747-2019, all residential rental units constructed before January 1, 1978 must have Lead Safe Certification from the Director of Building and Housing. OBCDC is committed in the continued fight against lead hazards and promoting healthy living for the community.
